About Scouts

Baden Powell founded Scouts in 1907. We also refer to him as BP. Each year we celebrate his birthday which we call Founders Day.

Baden Powell, started up the movement for young boys to come and learn the skills that they would not learn any where else. Some of these are navigation, survival in the bush, basic knotting, first aid and camping. The first ever scout camp was held in 1907 at Brownsea Island. His wife Olave started the Girl Guide movement in 1916.

By the time that BP was an old man, scouting had spread to most of the world, he was getting on in age but did manage to speak to his boys at a Jamboree (gathering of scouts from all over a particular land, or the whole world).

Baden Powell came to the 1st Australian Jamboree which was held in 1934 - 35. He died a few years later at the age of 84, on the 8th of January 1941. And on his grave head you will find the Scout sign. And below the writing which reads ;Robert Baden Powell Chief Scout of the World Born 22nd February 1857 Died 8th January 1941. You can find a tracking sign which is a circle inside a circle. this means "gone home" ;.
Scouting came to Australia in 1908.

Dapto Scout Group
Toronto Ave Dapto, New South Wales, Australia
Dapto Scout Group began on 3rd Jan 2006. It was formed by the Koonawarra and the 3rd Dapto Groups joining. We have a yellow and blue scarf representing the Dapto sports colours. The uniform is now a navy blue with Yellow on the shoulders for Cubs and green on the shoulders for Scouts. The group is open for both boys and girls and we have many activities that the youth can experience These include such things as abseiling, rock climbing, canoeing, flying and many more. We have also taken the group to many places, including Victoria, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Snowy mountains and many more. The Cubs and Scouts also enjoy fun activities such as bowling, Hangdog, putt putt, camping, visits to emergency services, just to name a few.
